Al E. Marino was born Elwyn Alfonso Marino on October 10, 1937, in Portland, Oregon. He died January 30, 2021, at home in Gresham, Oregon. He had a happy childhood, growing up with siblings Lenny, Jean, and sister Charlene who was 14 when AL was born. Al led an adventuresome life on all fronts. He was married four times and had seven children, all of whom he loved and was proud of. Al and his third wife Betty were married for 50 years. Al's family grew to include 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Of Italian ancestry, it's no surprise that Al adored his big family. As a young man, Al joined the Navy and was part of a special operations team that was forerunner to today's SEAL's. He thoroughly enjoyed his nine years in the military and kept in touch with many fellow veterans throughout his life. After the Navy, Al drove trucks for a living, particularly liking long-haul driving. Al had many exciting tales to tell from both his military and truck-driving years. The last few years of Al's life added yet another exhilarating chapter, as he and his wife Vickie fulfilled his lifelong dream of buying a big fifth wheel and traversing the country. They also visited Italy and took cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Bahamas, and Mexico. They camped with fellow Elks and made friends wherever they went. When people say, "Live in the moment," they are talking about Al. He really did live life to the fullest in his 83 years. He will be sorely missed by his family; friends; military colleagues; and members of his LDS church, Gresham Elks Lodge, Vancouver Sons & Daughters of Italy and fellow Teamsters. Due to the pandemic and the mandated regulations of the cemetery, per the family, attendance at the cemetery will be by invitation only. Thank you for understanding.
