Carl Edward Stambaugh, 73, of Ashland, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born July 22, 1944, in Ashland, the son of the late Arnold and Zona Hurst Stambaugh. He was a former employee of AK Steel, Ashland VFW and a devoted grandfather. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War, serving with the Beach Jumper Unit 1 and received two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star and a Navy Commendation Medal. He was a member of VFW, DAV, Loyal Order of Cooties and an avid Ashland Tomcat fan and booster. He is survived by two sons, Carl A. (Carrie) Stambaugh of Morehead and William E. "Bill" (Lavenna) Stambaugh of Ashland; one sister, Carolyn (Gordon) Nichols of Lexington; two brothers, Jerry (Sharon) Stambaugh of Greenup and Lawrence (Dorothy) Stambaugh of Ashland; six grandchildren, Thaddeus Stambaugh, Autumn Hoffman, Abbegail Stambaugh, Xavier Stambaugh, Elisabeth Martin and Sophia Stambaugh. Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with Rev. Scott Hill officiating.Graveside military rites will provided by Kenova American Legion Post 93. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DAV, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
