James Davie Hendry was born May 8, 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island; son of William Davie Hendry and Helena Salmon Hendry. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juanita Bussen Hendry of Catonsville; son Michael of Staunton, Virginia; son James J. with Lorraine of Arlington, Virginia; daughter Ginny of Chicago; and daughter-in-law Kathleen of Catonsville; grandsons James, Jonathan, Justin with Rebecca, Sean, Craig, Douglas and great-grandsons Levi and Isaac. He was predeceased by his son Stephen D. Hendry of Catonsville. Jim enlisted in the US Navy in 1946, spent 27 years rising through the ranks from seaman to commander, when he retired in 1972. He was a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California and earned a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Jim taught Electrical Engineering Technology at ODU for ten years and since moving to Catonsville in 1988, has been a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, the Renaissance Institute at the University of Notre Dame of Maryland, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a volunteer at the National Electronics Museum. He was a stained-glass artist, skilled woodworker, and recorder of family history. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Electronics Museum, 1745 W. Nursery Road, Linthicum, MD 21090 or to Our Lady of Victory Church, 4414 Wilkens Avenue; Baltimore, MD 21229. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, March 16 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at STERLING-ASHTON-SCHWAB-WITZKE FUNERAL HOME OF CATONSVILLE, INC., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 AM, Saturday, March 17 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4414 Wilkens Avenue; Baltimore, MD. Interment at a later date Arlington National Cemetery.
