Simon John Hayes, 66, completed his earthly journey at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. John was born in Crowley, LA on January 5, 1948, and was the son of Cecil O. Hayes and Marguerite Emma Hollier Hayes. His father was career Air Force and John moved many times during his school years, having lived in Crowley, Shreveport, LA, Lubbock and Ft. Worth, TX, as well as Lake Charles and Topeka, KS, he also lived in France for several years. He was a 1966 graduate of LaGrange High School, and was always active in and enjoyed the school reunions. After high school, he went on to earn an Associate of Science degree from McNeese State University in 1971 and served his country in the US Navy and the US Naval Reserves. In 1969, he married Anna Marie Silvia, in Lake Charles. They made their home in and reared their family in Moss Bluff. In 1971 he went to work for South Central Bell, which became BellSouth, and he retired from AT&T in 2010 after 38 ½ years of dedicated service. He worked in Lake Charles, Sulphur, Leesville, Lafayette, and New Orleans. He was a project manager of office conversions for five states at the end of his career. John enjoyed being a participant in the Telephone Pioneers for the last 40 years, and served as vice president and president of that group. He was also a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for several local builds. He delighted in being a volunteer Santa at Acadian Village in Lafayette, and enjoyed cooking for Camp Bluebird (cancer survivor camp) for many years in the Lake Charles area. Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes for John as well as woodworking. John is preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, John Patrick Hayes. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anna Marie Silvia Hayes, and two sons, John William Hayes (companion, Grace) of Richland, WA and Donald James Hayes (wife, Amanda) of Pearland, TX. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Aaron Matthew Hayes of Richland, WA, William Thomas Hayes and Eleanor Grace Hayes of Pearland, TX, one sister, Rebecca Hayes of Gillis, one brother, Cecil O. “Jake” Hayes, Jr. of DeQuincy, LA. and his favorite nieces, Mary Alice Hayes of Gillis, LA, and Heather Hayes of Austin, TX. Services will be at held 3:00pm Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the funeral home and resume Saturday from 8:00am until time of service. Burial will be in Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
