Herman James Miller JANUARY 2, 1939 – JULY 2, 2023 Herman James Miller, 84, was born in St. John, Michigan, raised in Ionia, Michigan and lived in Jacksonville, Florida the last 48 years, passed away on July 2, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on January 2, 1939, to the late August Karl Miller (Donna) and Isabelle Alberta Tyson (Don). Herman proudly served in the United States Navy for 24 years. Herman will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dale Michaele (Mickey) Miller, and his children Katherine (Katie) Garst (Robert) and Karl. He was also a cherished grandfather to RJ, Courtney, Bobby, and Jenna. He is survived by his siblings Fred Miller (Sherry), Larry Miller (Virginia), Joyce Bolema (Tim), and Donna Miller, as well as sister-in laws Karen, Targa and Barbara Miller, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members. Herman was preceded in death by his siblings: David Miller, Douglas Miller, Gordon Miller, August Miller and Robert Miller. After his military service, Herman pursued a career as a middle school math teacher after graduating Suma Cum Laude from the University of North Florida in 1983. Herman had a deep faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ and was an active member of Celebration Lutheran Church in St. Johns, Florida. He found solace and community in his place of worship. In his free time, Herman enjoyed various hobbies including cars, particularly BMWs and Formula One Racing. He also had a passion for firearms, genealogy, and was a Civil War enthusiast. Herman's religious studies and devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ were an integral part of his life. In memory of Herman, contributions can be made to Celebration Lutheran Church in St. Johns, Florida, a place that held great significance to him.
