Norm passed away on July 27, 2012 after a battle with cancer. He was born on June 4, 1938 in Sutherland, Nebraska to John and Helen Hoatson. After graduating from high school in Grants Pass, Oregon he joined the U.S. Navy in 1956. In 1959 he began working for Southern Oregon Broadcasting as an electronics technician in Grants Pass. He later transferred to KBES-TV in Medford then KOTI-TV in Klamath Falls. In 1970 he moved to Redding to work for KRCR-TV as Chief Engineer until 1988. Norm changed careers and became a Farmer's Insurance agent for the next 11 years. After that he wanted to do something "fun" and bought his Freightliner truck hauling lumber for a few years. After retiring, he enjoyed bass fishing and riding motorcycles. Norm will be missed by his wife Paula; daughters Barbara (Jim) Nelson and Julie Selby; daughter in law Kelly Hoatson; grandchildren Jessica, Forrest, Jeremy, Dylan, Holly and Heather; great grandchildren Dylan, Lily, Darien and Kailey; and his brother Ron (Diana) Hoatson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Lawncrest Chapel, 1522 E. Cypress Avenue in Redding. Donations may be made to Mercy Home and Hospice.
